The first step is to download the correct version of Ventrilo that you need. You can download it from from here. Once you go to their website you will want to download the Client version of their software. The software is broken down by the operation system platform that you run and also the processor type. If you are unsure on what type you will want to download you can just use the x86 version.

After you have downloaded the software you will want to run it where ever you saved the file. Once you run it, the setup is pretty straight forward just make sure you take note of where you install it and it should by default also create a link on your desktop for you to use.

Once you have everyting installed you will want to run the Ventrilo software either from the icon on your desktop or from your start menu if you on a Microsoft Windows machine. once you bring up the software it should look like this:

You will want to click on the top "->" arrow on the User Name line.

In this step you will want to click the new button. This will bring up another pop-up window which will allow you to enter in the username that you want to join Ventrilo with. This is what will show in the Ventrilo program as your name, and for this basic setup this can be pretty much anything you want the name to be. Once you create the username, click ok and that should bring you back to the "Setup User" box. Now it should show your new username in the top left, and after that is complete you can click "OK" to continue.

This step you can click on the second "->" arrow, the arrow right below the one you did for the username.

At this point you should have a new window opened named "Connection Editor", and on this screen you will want to click the button "New" button. This will bring up a new box where you can put in whatever you like, this is just to give your server information some distintion between other servers if you add more at a later time. Once you enter in the label for your server hit "OK" and you should be back to the "Connection Editor" window. Next you will want to enter in the IP/Hostname to your server. Letter "A" shows an example of one of our hostnames, you should be either given something that looks like the example "A" or have a numerical value that would look like "127.12.13.23".

Next you will want to enter in the port number that you were given, we have an example listed at letter "B" of what a port number is.

The example in letter "C" is an optional field. By default straight out of the box there is no password that you want to enter here. Down the road though if you want to add a password for people to enter to join your server you will need to enter the password here.

Once you enter in the IP/Hostname, the port number and the password if you need one to join you can hit the "OK" button at the very bottom, we are done with this page.

Now that you have your username setup, the connection information setup its finally time for you to connect to the server. All you need to do is click the "Connect" button on the right hand side of Ventrilo to connect to the server. If you are given any errors double check all the information you put in. Make sure everything matches the information exactly how you were given. Most of the errors are due to people copy / pasting and leaving an extra space on the end on accident or just human error. If you have any troubles joining the server just check your information you could have missed something small.
